November = 30 days of Thankfulness and BlogHer NaBloPoMo

November is a month of thankfulness.  I look at this time of year as a way to look back on what the year has brought us and what the last two months of the year can have in store for us.  I want to write my gratitude out so I can remember it all.  I like to share it as I hope it will help others to think what they have to be thankful for.  I will be posting something for the next 30 days for which I am thankful and I wonder will others who read my blog  join in?

And I will start close to my heart … I am very thankful and grateful for the man I can call my husband and best friend and who is the father to our daughters.  His love for his family and his girls are amazing.  For me, I may try his patience, push his buttons, and he is always there for me (and I him) I am so lucky.  Our lives are crazy sometimes not for the good, but I know we are there for each other.  We have weathered through a lot in the 19 years we know and love each other and that has given me a lot to be thankful for.

Five Random Things about Me

I was recently tagged by my friend Phyllis of The Napkin Hoarder to lay out 5 random things, about me, on the interwebs. Here we go:

1.  The next holiday on the calendar is one I’m not a fan of ~ Halloween.  If you saw my house now you’d never believe it, it’s what parenting children will do to you.  My house is decorated with pumpkins, webs, spiders and witches and ghosts!  I am not a scrooge just never got into the holiday that much and much less as an adult.  Same goes for Valentine’s Day but again when you see my house all decorated up you’d never believe it and my kids are not any wiser.

2.  I’ve become a whiskey drinker, yep that’s right all the talk about a glass of wine at the end of the day or the clink of the ice for my margarita on the rocks shared on Facebook does not tell the whole story.  I’ve had many phases of drink I imbibe in.  My latest and greatest is a new love for Whiskey.  I had my first smashed whiskey with muddled strawberries 2 summers ago and never looked back!

3.  I fit the stereotype of the male partner in a relationship when it comes to being sick and hogging the television.  Yep that’s right, I crawl right into bed or huddle under blankets when a cold shows up and I’m the first and usually the only person in the evening when our girls are tucked into bed to work and hog our television remote.  A girl has got to do what a girl has got to do.  Television at night is where I decompress and being sick well I just need to cave when I am sick.

4.  I wish I was crafty.  I am a phenomenal pinner of Pinterest but I’m not really crafty enough to follow through and if I do well it does not usually turn out like the picture!

5.  I am a homebody.  Yes I am social, yes I like to go out and have fun, yes I like to travel, but YES I like to be home in my house especially in the Fall and Winter when it gets dark early and be cuddled in my home with my family.

Let’s continue this game of tag!  Up next Lori of Lavender Luz, Melanie of Three Fish In A Tree, Amber of Bumber’s Bumblings, Kim of These Are the Days and Maggie of Pink Shoes

it’s only a number, right?

I’ve never really felt my age, I mean how is 50 supposed to feel?  or 49, 48, 47, 46, 45, etc.? and in a couple of months I will already be turning 51!

I have family genes in my favor and there will never be a day that you will see the gray in my hair thanks to some cosmetic products!  I can even say that occasionally still I am carded when buying wine or other alcoholic beverages.  Feels good I have to say!

But then there was yesterday. I was reminded that I am old or at least outside the age requirements.  My girls and I headed to the flu shot clinic for our annual preventative care. What I learned is that eligibility for the flu mist is ages 2-49, I’m now in the too old category! so a flu shot it was and now my arm aches.  I never realized I’d be outside that check off box.

It has bothered me ever since and now I think about how old I am which is something I’ve never really given much thought to. I need to reprogram my thoughts to remember it’s only a number, right?

15 years married

photo (15)

It was 15 years ago on this date, that I married my best friend in front of family and friends on a beautiful warm autumn day on Long Island.

I can look back in my mind’s eye to this beautiful happy day like it was yesterday.  We did not know what the journey ahead would be for us we just knew we wanted to spend our lives together.  We have been together for 19 years having dated for 4 years before marrying.

What began as a friendship and blossomed into romance and now has deepened into a love and relationship that I could never imagine.  To have this man by my side is the best thing that has ever happened to me.  Over the years together we have had our ups and downs and we have weathered the storm coming out as a stronger team together.

I could never have imagined the journey our lives together would take and would never change a thing.  This man who is now the father to our children.  Each of our girls entrusted to us at birth. Our family expanding not only with the addition of our daughters but with each of their families. The love and friendship we share with all of our girls families only enhancing our love for each other.

Here we are 15 years later, we lived in San Francisco then to our first home purchased together in El Cerrito, then onto Hercules and now to our home in Poet’s Corner.  We have traveled together including Alaska, Mexico, back and forth to the East Coast and our honeymoon in France and Italy.  Later visiting friends and wandering through Australia.  I first started camping with this man and now our family enjoys yearly summer camping together.  We drove to our first daughter’s birth in Minnesota seeing it as an adventure leaving behind our coupledom .

Raising two girls together who are now 8 and 6 years old.  The fun and hectic parts of our daily lives that doesn’t always leave time for us.  I cherish our family time together but most importantly I cherish the time we get together just the two of us whether it’s after our girls have gone to bed or we’ve actually gone out on a date! The ups and downs of everyday life have only strengthened our friendship and love for each other.

Here’s to another 15 years and more, my love I wouldn’t want to share this crazy life with anyone else, Happy Anniversary!
